How to link Dash assets to Shopify products

Learn how to link assets to your Shopify catalogue, then find and export them from Dash.

👉 Available on: our current usage-based plans.

Use your Shopify product catalogue to organise your creative in Dash, without recreating product information in separate fields.

After you connect your Shopify store, its product, variant and SKU data becomes available through the Products field. Link your assets to the relevant products or variants so you can easily find them in Dash and export them to Shopify.

Before you start

ℹ️ Note: If you have connected more than one Shopify store, check which is set as your primary store in Admin > Integrations. Dash uses this store’s catalogue for the Products field and exports assets to this store only.

Link an asset to a Shopify product or variant

You can link assets as an Admin or Contributor.

  1. Open an asset or select multiple assets to bulk edit

  2. Click the Products field and search by product name, variant option or SKU

  3. Select one or more products to link to the asset. Selecting a product links the asset to that product and all its variants in Dash.

As an alternative to the above, click the arrow next to the Products field box to open your product list. You can search here and use the checkboxes to select multiple products.

Link an asset to specific variants

If an asset is relevant to particular variants, such as a specific colour or size, you can select those variants instead.

  1. Hover over a product name and click Specify variants

  2. Select the variants you want to link to the asset. You can switch between Grouped and Full list using the toggle in the top right

Find assets linked to a Shopify product or variant

Search for linked assets

Enter a product name, variant option or SKU in the Dash search bar to find linked assets.

For example, searching for “Ember Essential Shorts” (or just "Ember") finds assets linked to that Shopify product.

Filter by product or variant

  1. Go to All assets or Browse

  2. Find the Products field in the filter panel on the left

  3. Search by product name, variant option or SKU, then select a product to apply as a filter

  4. To filter by specific variants:

    1. Hover over a product name

    2. Click Specify variants

    3. Select the relevant variants

As an alternative to the above, click the arrow next to the Products field search box to open the product list. Use the checkboxes to select one or more products for your filter. You can also select variants in this list.

💡 Tip: Paste a comma-separated list of SKUs into the Products filter search box. Dash automatically selects matching products or variants and applies them as a filter.

For example, pasting PSP-S, PSP-C, EES-N-L selects the three matching products or variants below.

Export linked assets to Shopify

Once your assets are linked, you can send them directly to Shopify. Follow our guide to exporting assets from Dash to Shopify.

ℹ️ Note: Assets linked to specific variants are exported to the parent product’s media gallery in Shopify. They are not automatically assigned as images for those individual variants.

Update your Shopify product catalogue in Dash

Dash imports your existing product catalogue when you first set up the integration.

Make any changes to your product catalogue directly in Shopify - this includes adding, editing, archiving or deleting products. Then use one of the options below to bring those changes into Dash.

Option 1 - update while linking assets

As an Admin or Contributor:

  1. Open an asset or select multiple assets to bulk edit

  2. Click the three-dot menu next to the Products field

  3. Select Update products from Shopify

You’ll see a confirmation when the update is complete.

Option 2 - update from the Admin page

As an Admin:

  1. Go to Admin > Fields

  2. Click the Products field

  3. Click Update now

When the update is complete, the Last updated time refreshes to show when the catalogue was updated.

Deleted and archived products

After you update the product catalogue:

  • Products deleted in Shopify no longer appear against previously linked assets in Dash

  • Products archived in Shopify remain linked to your assets, with “(Archived)” added to the end of the product names

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve already tagged assets using my own product or SKU fields. Do I have to start again?

Get in touch with our Customer Success team through the in-app chat. We’ll help you migrate your existing tags to the Products field.

Can I export assets to multiple Shopify stores?

You can export assets from Dash to your primary Shopify store only. The Products field uses that store’s catalogue.

Will changes to an asset in Dash automatically update its copy in Shopify?

No. Export the updated asset again to send the latest version to Shopify.

Can smart tagging link assets to my Shopify products?

No. Smart tagging does not work with the Products field. Select the relevant products or variants yourself to keep your assets linked accurately.
