Exporting your assets directly to Shopify

Learn how Shopify exports work to update your Shopify products without ever leaving Dash

Updated this week

With the Dash Shopify integration, you can update multiple products in Shopify in one go, by exporting assets directly from Dash to your Shopify store.

It automatically matches assets to products using your SKU field, so you can bulk upload and update product imagery in a few clicks.

This feature is designed for teams who regularly launch new collections or refresh product images across multiple SKUs.

If you haven't installed the Shopify integration yet, please see our article Installing the Dash Shopify integration.

Why it’s useful

  • Faster workflows – export dozens (or hundreds) of images to Shopify at once.

  • Accurate product matching – assets are linked to products using SKUs, reducing manual upload errors.

  • More control – review matches, edit SKUs if needed, and reorder images before you export.

  • Consistent presentation – the image order you set in Dash is reflected on Shopify product pages.

Things to do first

  1. First, ensure you have installed the integration.

  2. Ensure that the user that is exporting the assets has access to ‘Products’ in your Shopify store.

  3. Pre-configure which field in Dash we will use to match your SKUs between Dash and Shopify.

Exporting your assets to Shopify

To export your assets to Shopify from within Dash:

Step 1 - select the assets to export

  1. On the "All assets" or "Browse" screens, select the assets you would like to export. You can select multiple assets.

  2. Click the Share button at the top of the page

  3. Click "Export to Shopify

  4. Choose the preset size you'd like to use to export the assets as

  5. Choose the connected store you would like to export to (if you have more than one store connected to your Dash)

If you haven't already set up your SKU field, the first time you attempt an export you will be asked to do this. See Setting up an SKU field in your Dash.

Step 2 - review the export

In this step you can:

  • Check all the assets have been matched to the correct Shopify product

  • Choose the position of the assets alongside the existing assets of the corresponding Shopify product

ℹ️ Currently we have a maximum of 250 products that can be matched during a single export. If you have more products to update, please chunk/divide your exports accordingly.

  1. Review the matched products

Dash automatically matches each asset to a product using its SKU.

    • Matched assets are grouped under the correct product.

    • Unmatched assets are shown separately - you can enter a SKU manually or leave them to export into Shopify’s “Files” area.

    • You can manually add any SKU to assets listed that don't have an SKU already (admin and contributor user roles only).

  1. Review and reorder
Check the list before exporting. You can:

    • Remove assets you don’t want to export

    • Drag and drop to reorder images for each product

  2. Optional - add more assets
If you wish, you can add more assets to the export before starting it.

Just click "Continue adding assets" and you'll be taken back to your Dash, where you can repeat the steps above to add further assets.

If you change your mind, you can get back to the export screen by clicking the banner at the top of the screen:

Step 3 - Export to Shopify

Once you are happy that your assets are matched to the correct products and are in the right position, you can export them to Shopify.

When you export, Dash uploads the assets in the background and keeps the window updated with progress.

You can safely close Dash - the export will continue.

Just click "Export x assets to Shopify" to start the export.

Exported assets will be sent directly to the relevant product in Shopify. If that product is live, the assets will be immediately published.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I export my assets to my product variants?

Currently variants are not supported - we will match the root of your Dash fields to any existing product SKUs that we find. Your assets will be imported into the main library of your product — to update your variants imagery you will need to do this directly in Shopify.

Are there any limitations file type or size?

Only images and videos of up to 20MB can be exported.
