How to bulk update assets

Learn about updating multiple assets in one go

Updated over 3 months ago

Often, you'll want to make the same update - for example, changing the expiry date or usage rights - for many assets at once. In Dash, there's no need to painstakingly do this one-by-one. This article will go over how to easily update assets in bulk.

What you can do with bulk editing:

  • Move assets between folders, or add them to additional folders

  • Apply the same field entry to multiple assets in one go

Step 1: Select your assets

Select the assets you want to update, following these instructions.

Step 2: Edit your assets

With your assets selected, hit the "Edit" icon on the top right, as you would for a single asset.

You'll then see the edit panel appear as usual where you can select the fields you want to update. Whilst editing, you can also de-select previously selected items if you change your mind about what you want to update.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a limit to how many assets I can bulk update?

No, but if you edit over 500 assets at once, you'll be prompted to review your edits before they're applied. We also won't show thumbnails, to improve performance.

Can I bulk replace tags as well?

Yes, using the same process as above. You can refer to this article for a detailed guide on doing this.

What if I want to make more complex updates?

There are some scenarios that might be a bit more complex or require multiple steps, such as updating assets with multiple fields/options at once, or finding all assets that match a certain criteria (e.g. a blank title) and then updating these. In this case, you might want to use our metadata import where you can use a spreadsheet to update your assets. More info can be found in our dedicated article.
