Sorting in Dash is super simple, read on to find out more.
How to sort assets
Make sure you're in "All assets" view.
On the top right, you'll see a sorting drop down. This is initially set to "Date added - new to old", but you can change what it's set to to a number of options, depending on your specific account configuration (more on this later).
Click the drop-down to change how your assets are sorted. This will save it as the default setting for your user account moving forward, until you change it again, even if you log out and back in again. This won't change it for other users, just you.
Which options you can sort by
These options are always available by default in your sorting drop down:
Date added: new to old
Date added: old to new
Most downloaded
Least downloaded
File size - large to small
File size - small to large
The rest of the options are determined by which text fields you've included in your Thumbnail display (this is configured in Admin > Fields > Thumbnail display > Logged-in users).
For example, the "Title" field is usually included in the Thumbnail field by default, and therefore you can sort by it. If, however, you were to remove it, it would no longer be available in the sorting drop-down.
How to sort by filename
If your assets use a defined file naming convention, you may wish to sort by filename. While sorting by filename isn't a direct option in the sort drop-down list, you can achieve it by creating a separate text field to store the filename, as follows:
Create a new text field called "Filename"
In the field options panel, open the section "Populate with data embedded in the file" and type "Filename"
This will mean this field will be populated with the filename for all future uploads.
Add the field to the thumbnail display
This will make the field appear in the sorting drop-down list
Note that adding the filename mapping will only work for assets uploaded after you make the change. If you would like the filename of existing assets mapped to the field, just get in touch via the in-app chat and we'll be able to run this for you.
