How to browse your Dash visually

Learn about browsing your Dash by folders and fields in a visual way

Updated over a week ago

You can use the Browse tab to visually browse through assets in your Dash. This sits alongside the All assets page, and offers a different way to browse your Dash to find the assets you are looking for.

In the Browse page, you can:

  • Browse through any structured field visually, including folders, controlled tags, dropdown lists etc

  • Add custom images to all levels of folders and fields

  • Further filter the results by your custom fields

How to browse by different fields

By default, the Browse page will show you your folders visually at the top of the main asset results. You can choose to change this to instead browse by any of your other structured fields.

Enabling a field for browsing

In order to browse by a field, first ensure the field has been enabled for browsing in the admin settings.

  1. Visiting Admin > Fields

  2. Choose the field you would like to browse by

  3. Select "Enable browsing by this field"

Browsing by a field

Once the field is enabled for browsing, you can try it out!

  1. Return to the Browse screen

  2. Click the drop-down against the "Browse" label, and choose your desired field:

Here is our demo Dash browsing by Category instead:

This means you can choose to visually browse your assets based on the most relevant piece of information to you at the time.

The following field types are supported for visual browsing:

  • Dropdown lists

  • Checklists

  • Nested lists / folders

  • Controlled tags

Note that the Browse view only shows assets in the selected folder or field. If you prefer to view all assets that match a filter, use the All assets page.

Using the suggested filters to further refine the results

As you are browsing your assets, Dash will suggest additional fields that you can use as filters to further narrow down the results. To do this:

  1. Browse your Dash as normal

  2. Notice the Suggested filters

  3. Choose a filter to apply

Here is an example where we have browsed by the "Lifestyle" folder, but then have applied an additional filter to narrow down the results to just show the "Plants & Ferns" category:

Notes on suggested filters

  • You will only see suggested filters that will generate results. Filters that if chosen would result in no assets are hidden.

Managing your folders and fields

Just like the dots in the folders menu allow you to create, rename and move folders directly from the sidebar, the same menu is available over the folder thumbnail.

When browsing by folders

The thumbnail menu for folders allows you to upload or remove a new cover image, as well as create/rename/move/delete folders.

When browsing by fields, the thumbnail menu lets you manage your cover image, as well as rename or delete the selected field option.

Frequently Asked Questions

The field I want to browse by isn't showing in the dropdown list

By default, only hierarchical fields (folders, nested lists and controlled tags) are enabled for visual browsing. If you would like another type of field to be browsable, follow the steps above to enable it.
