How to share a folder publicly

You can use portals to share folders with external partners. The benefit of using portals are:

  • They stay up to date, always showing the current assets in the chosen folder

  • They contain the same fully-functional search and filtering options that your Dash users benefit from

  • They can be branded

You can learn all about portals in this article.

How to share a folder using portals

There are two ways to share a folder using portals:

Option 1 - from the main Dash view

  1. Navigate to the Browse or All assets pages

  2. Locate the folder you would like to share

    1. In the Browse page, this will be on the main asset panel

    2. Or in the Folders section of the sidebar

  3. Click the three dot menu by the folder and choose "Share via portal..."

  4. In the prompt that appears, set up the portal as desired:

    1. Give it a suitable name

    2. Choose whether users can download or just view assets in the portal

    3. Optionally add any other folders to be included in the same portal link

  5. Click Create portal

  6. If you would like to make further edits to your portal, in the next screen you can click Configure to access additional options such as theming, passcode access and a welcome message.

Option 2 - from within the portal admin area

You can also share a folder by creating a portal from scratch and choosing the desired folder as part of the portal creation process.

This method gives you a few more options at the point of creation that the method above does not:

  • Add a welcome message

  • Choose a portal theme

  • Choose whether you want the portal to be accessed with a passcode or not

To create a portal from scratch, follow the steps in this article.
