What is Smart Tagging?
Smart Tagging uses AI to suggest field values for your images based on your existing metadata. Rather than tagging each asset manually, you can quickly review and accept Dash’s intelligent recommendations.
Where does Smart Tagging appear?
Smart Tagging can be found in two places in Dash:
⬆️ During an upload of new assets.
You will find the "Show suggestions" button on the upload screen once the assets have finished uploading.
✏️ During a bulk edit of existing assets
Once you enter the bulk edit screen, you'll see the "Show suggestions" button at the top of the screen.
How to use Smart Tagging
From either the upload or bulk edit screens, click "Show suggestions"
If Dash finds any likely matches, you'll see the option to review suggestions
Review your suggestions
Dash will group your assets and suggest a value based on your existing data - e.g. "Do these all belong in the 'Spring/Summer Campaign' folder?"
Accept, reject or skip
✅ Happy with the suggestion? Hit accept.
❌ Spotted something off? Deselect any incorrect images or reject the suggestion altogether.
⏭ Not sure? You can always skip for now and return later.Use the field tabs
Want to go straight to a specific field (like “Product” or “SKU code”)? Use the tabs to navigate and review suggestions by field.
Manually tag if needed
You can still manually tag images, either to tweak Dash’s suggestions or tag any fields that were missed in the right hand edit panel.
How Smart Tagging works (and how to get the best results)
How does it work?
Dash trains an AI model using the field values from your existing images. The more data you have, the smarter it gets - learning patterns unique to your brand. This model is updated daily and trained only on your Dash account, ensuring privacy and tailored predictions.
Which fields are supported?
Smart Tagging works for any field type with fixed values:
Folders
Controlled Tags
Dropdowns
Checklists
Nested lists
Does it work for my niche metadata?
Yes! Because the AI learns from your data, it can handle domain-specific fields like product SKUs or campaign codes - even if they wouldn’t mean anything outside your business.
Tips for getting the best results
✅ Tag fields based on what’s in the image
Smart Tagging analyses the visual content of an image, so it’s most effective for fields that describe what’s actually shown, like:
“Product”
“Room”
“Type of content"
❌ Fields that rely on external context
For example, fields like “Posted to social media?” or “Status” aren’t a good fit for AI-based suggestions.
✅ Make sure you have enough training data
The more examples of each tag you’ve got, the better Dash can learn. It’s not about how many tags you have - it’s about how many images exist for each tag.
✅ Check your manual tagging for accuracy
Smart Tagging learns from what you’ve already tagged. If the training data includes mistakes or missing tags, the model’s suggestions might be off. Tag cleanly, and Dash will reward you with smarter suggestions.
✅ Use fields with visually distinct values
Fields where each tag has a clear visual difference (like “Shoes” vs “Dress”) are easier to learn than those where images look similar (like “Size M” vs “Size L”).
