How to create a custom field

Learn about how to store custom information about your assets

Custom fields are a really useful and valuable way of making your assets easier to organise and find.

You can read about custom fields, with an example, in this article.

Once you've decided what field you'd like to create, you can do so as follows:

Option 1 - In the Admin section

  1. Go to Admin > Fields

  2. Click New field

  3. Choose from one of the example fields, or click Create custom field to make your own

  4. Choose your field type

  5. Depending on the type of field you chose, populate the field with your desired options

Option 2 - from the Upload screen

  1. Upload an asset

  2. In the metadata sidebar, scroll down to the Configuration section

  3. Choose from one of the example fields, or click New field to create your own

How can I add a new option for my checklist/dropdown custom field?

You can add a new option for an existing checklist or dropdown custom field from either the Admin page, within an Asset detail page or even as you upload a new asset.

πŸ’‘ Note that only Admin users can add or remove new options to custom fields.

From the Admin section:

  1. Go to Admin > Fields

  2. Click on the field you want to add a new option to a new pane will open up to the right

  3. Go to the "Checklist options" section, type in the new option name, and click the "Add" button:

From the Upload/Asset detail screens:

You can add a new option to your custom field directly from either the upload or asset detail screens:

  1. Search for the particular field in the right hand side panel

  2. Click on "Create new ..." button > type in the name of the new option and click "Create option":
